Lake Kerkini is located to the city of Serres and 80 klm from Thessaloniki. It is an artificial reservoir and was formed because of the dam of the river Strymonas. The lake is a magnificent landscape with view to the mountain Beles.
It is an important wetland area internationally. At this area, about 700 buffalo and 300 bird species such as stork, cormorant and erodios are bred. Hunting is prohibited. If you visit Kerkini you will have the opportunity to take part in boating, gaze up rare birds and also to cycle around the lake.
