It was founded at the end of the 9th century by Pavlos Xeropotamitis. It was celebrated on February 2 in the Presentation of Jesus. The monastery has been destroyed several times by various causes but it was recreated.
Important relics of the monastery is one of the gifts of the Magi to Christ. There are also holy remains and other sacred relics. Also, it has a great library with a large number of important projects.
